Did you know?

The gramophone was originally known as the phonograph. It was invented in 1877 by Thomas Edison. Emile Berliner produced a variant of the phonograph and filed a patent for it, calling it gramophone in 1887. The term was derived from the Greek words ‘gramma’ meaning letters and ‘phone’ meaning voice. The word was originally a trademark but became a generic name later. It also inspired the name of the Grammy awards, originally known as Gramophone Awards.
